ALERT:
Mobile Phone Scam Targets VISA Check Card Holders
January 23, 2012 -- Baylake
Bank is alerting the public of a mobile phone scam that is being used to
fraudulently obtain VISA check (debit) card account information.
The voice recording informs customers that their VISA check card may be
compromised due to suspicious activity. It then takes the caller through an
automated process and asks for his/her debit card number.
The bank is warning that this is a fraudulent attempt to obtain VISA check card
account information, and notes that Baylake Bank will never ask you for your
password, or Personal Identification Number (PIN). However, they may confirm
personal account information or your card number if you initiate the call to
help verify your identity.
If you believe you have released any information in response to a scam, or feel
you have compromised your account information, you should immediately proceed
with the following:
(1) Contact your bank to close the card immediately. If after regular business
hours, contact the 1-800 phone number on the back of your check card.
(2) Contact your local law enforcement agency and report that you have been
scammed and are now the victim of fraud.
For more information, contact your local Baylake Bank Financial Center, or call
1 (800) 267-3610.
