December 2, 2011 --
When Baylake Bank employees gathered for all-staff meetings on Friday, November
11th – Veterans Day – they enjoyed educational sessions, team building projects,
and other activities. “We had the day jam-packed with activities so we could
make the most of our time together. Everyone learned a lot, but we definitely
had plenty of fun along the way!” said Samantha Rodriguez, Baylake Bank Sales &
Service Event representative.
She added, “A huge highlight of the day was when we presented nearly $3,500 from
fundraising efforts we had implemented in the months prior to the Sales &
Service event to raise money for the Disabled American Veterans Department of
Wisconsin (DAV-WI) and Camp American Legion.”
Vern Schroeder from American Legion Post 318 was present on behalf of Camp
American Legion, which serves approximately 400 injured and disable veterans
each summer with physical therapy, good food, fresh air and peaceful rest.
Schroeder commented that 207 first time attendees went to Camp American Legion
the past year, and the number of 20-29 year old veterans utilizing the camp has
increased by 55% in recent years.
DAV-WI State Commander Kevin C. “K.C.” Johnson accepted the donation for the DAV,
and stated that the mission of the DAV is building better lives for all of our
nation’s disabled veterans and their families. He commented that the Baylake
Bank donation will be used for the DAV van transportation program, in which free
transportation is provided to any veteran to any VA hospital or clinic in the
state. Johnson concluded by asking the audience to “Please remember the men and
women in uniform today; remember the sacrifices that they and their families are
making.”
